Attention girls rock camp organizers
around the world! Girls Rock Camp organizers representing 39 camps gathered in Durham, NC March 23-25 to share info, ideas and make all Rock Camps even radder! Every year our conference grows and grows in camp numbers and attendance. We want to give a HUGE extra special shout out on the shout out wall to our volunteer affiliate and conference organizers Emmet and Kate, as well as our amazing hosts Girls Rock NC! GRCA conferences provide networking, training, workshop and skill sharing opportunities for GRCA affiliate camp organizers who have completed the application process for this program. Conference attendees enjoy building community with other girls rock camp organizers around the world. Our three-day conferences include workshops, discussions, skills shares, and work groups designed to suit a variety of needs and interests. 2011 themed tracks included topics relating to: • Feminism and social change in your mission, at your Camp, and in your community • Anti-oppression training with Training for Change • Camper leadership opportunities • Tons of info-shares on everything from programming to budgets for new and experienced organizers • Mentorship • Inclusion practices and so much more! Due to limited space and resources, GRCA conferences are only open to mentors organizing and operating, or planning to organize/operate at least one session of a girls rock camp Summer Camp program that is affilated with the GRCA. About GRCAAn International CoalitionWith so many girls rock camps and girls music projects underway around the world, the time has come for these programs to unite and create a standard of value to preserve the nature and spirit of programs that seek to build self-esteem for girls through music education, as well as provide training to the volunteers and staff who bring the missions of their organizations to life. GRCA is currently located in Portland, Oregon as a program of the Portland Rock 'n' Roll Camp for Girls. We have grown from 7 affiliates in 2006 to 29 affilated girls rock camp
non profit/ngo organizations in 2010. We attribute this awesome success
in not only starting but sustaining and maintaining new camps to the
amazing supportive community we have created through our annual
conferences! |
