2012 Online Summer Camp ApplicationFAQ What is it? An intensive one week day camp in Portland, Oregon for girls ages 8-17, campers of all skill levels learn guitar, drums, keyboards, bass, vocals, or DJing, form a band, write a song, and perform at the end of week at a sold out Showcase for friends, family, and hundreds of screaming fans. Who is it? Women musicians, camp counselors, interns, and volunteers come together with campers from around the world to put the amp in camp! How Much Is It? $380 + a $10 non refundable application fee per camper. Financial aid is available upon request. When is it? Monday Registration: 8:00 - 9:00 am Tuesday - Friday Arrival: 8:30 - 9:00 am Summer Camp hours Monday - Friday: 9:00 am - 5:30 pm Summer Camp Closed: 5:45 pm every day Saturday, Showcase Times: Campers Arrive at Showcase Venue 5:00 pm Doors Open to Public 5:30 pm Showcase Begins 6:00 pm Can I Sign Up for Hip Hop Elements in Summer Camp? Yes, during session 3 of Summer Camp, we offer DJing, MCing, Break Dancing, and Beat Making/Producing. Is Summer Camp over night? No, we are a day camp and do not provide room and board for our campers. We have group hotel rates available that are listed Here. Can you connect me with a host family? Unfortunately we do not offer host family referrals to campers and families. If you are coming from out of town we have group hotel rates listed here. We encourage campers and families to network with their peers, however we are unable to give out any personal information of other participants. How do I apply? Summer Camp is first come, first served, space permitting. There are three steps to completing your application: 1. Fill out an application and pay the $10 application fee for each camper that wishes to apply. 2. Each camper creates and sends in an Express Yourself Piece 3, Pay tuition CLICK HERE TO APPLY ONLINE NOW. Applications submitted without an application fee or Express Yourself Piece will be considered incomplete. Send your Express Yourself Piece with cover sheet to our P.O. Box. You must send us an Express Yourself Piece to have a complete application (please NO faxes or emails. You may hand deliver your piece). We can only process the information you provide in your application. What is an Express Yourself Piece? Express Yourself! Camper enrollment is not based on the quality of this creative piece. Rather, we use the EYP to get to know the camper a little better and to find out more about her interest in coming to Summer Camp. CLICK HERE to go to our application page and download the Express Yourself Piece cover sheet. EYPs may not be returned to you, so send us something we can keep! We must have a hard copy of your piece sent to our P.O. Box (No emails or fax please). I enrolled online but didn't send an Express Yourself Piece. Will I still get a spot at Summer Camp? Your camper is not enrolled until we get her Express Yourself Piece. We will only give camp spots to campers with applications that are complete. A complete application includes:
My Summer plans have changed and I need to switch sessions. Who do I contact? All requests to change session must be submitted by email to camp@girlsrockcamp.org or in writing to our PO box. Because of the large volume of applicants we can not guarantee we will be able to accommodate change requests. I did not receive my first choice in instrument. Can I switch instruments? Due to the high volume of applications we receive each year it is very likely that there is not space available in the instrument group you requested. If you would like to make a formal request to switch you may, but we can not guarantee we will be able to accommodate any change requests.All requests to change session must be submitted by email to camp@girlsrockcamp.org or in writing to our PO box. When can I purchase Showcase tickets? Tickets for the session's Showcase go on sale the morning of the first day of camp. They can be purchased at the Camp when you drop off your camper, or at the venue throughout the week. If Summer Camp isn't about becoming a rock star, what's it about? Our mission is to help girls build self-esteem through music creation, performance, and workshops. We empower girls to be independent thinkers and develop life skills. As a supportive community of peers and mentors, we provide positive role models, hands-on experience, and access to technical and creative resources. Summer Camp classes, workshops, and events are designed to foster self-esteem and life skills development in every camper while having fun, creating music, and making friends. More Information
