Girls Rock Institute Instructors

We are accepting applications for female mentors in the Portland area. We are especially looking for women of color who are positive role modles for all levels of teaching in the following areas at our year round after school program.
• guitar
• bass
• drums
• vocals
• keyboards
• DJing
• MCing/beatboxing
• B-girl break dancing
• producing/computer beat making
• Studio Engineers (Macintosh, Cubase, Reason)

Instructors should also have experience in
• songwriting
• band coaching
• alternative instruments
• working with youth
• curriculum development
• mentorship
• volunteering

Before applying for a teaching position at GRI, please review the following requirements and recommendations.

Teachers at GRI must:
• Identify as female gendered
• Have competence and confidence in playing and teaching instrument/skill to girls ages 8-18.
• Some training and curriculum is provided, but we encourage you to design your own classes.
• Submit a recorded sample or myspace link of your own music in solo or band form with your application.


It is recommended GRI instructors have:
• experience working or volunteering with youth
• basic knowledge of at least 2 other instruments
• experience related to performing, touring, recording, and producing band merchandise.
