Zines 101!

Making Friends the Old Fashioned Way,
A Workshop by Nicole J. Georges

Q: What is a zine, anyway?

A: A Zine is a self-made publication, done purely out of passion and rarely making a profit.

In this workshop, seasoned self-publisher and comic artist Nicole J. Georges covers the What and How of zine-making, helping students discover the thrill of self expression and a sense of expertise & empowerment from creating their very own personal zines!

Participants will examine a selection of age-appropriate editions from Nicole's zine library and learn the history of the form, including some ways that underground music, radical politics, and independent publishing have intersected in her brief speech: Riot Grrl In A Nutshell.

With the help of clip art, rub on type, and other antiquated office supplies, students will explore the cut & Paste method and leave with how-to guides so that they might self publish forever!

Note: This presentation can be adjusted for any age group and has successfully been taught to adults, senior citizens, students and children.
